In the scenic landscape of Plettenberg Bay along the Garden Route, South Africa, a monumental initiative is taking root. Tebelo Community Development Non-Profit Company has unveiled its flagship community training centre, marking a significant move towards holistic community advancement.
The recent inauguration ceremony drew distinguished attendees, including Bitou Mayor, Mr. Dave Swart, and esteemed representatives from partner entities such as People of Love NPC, The Kwano Cycling Academy, and Plett Tourism. Not to forget, the generous patrons who’ve made this vision come to life.
Jaco van den Heever, Tebelo’s Project Manager, emphasizes the organization’s ambition, stating, “Our mission embodies a vision not only for South Africa but for the wider African expanse. By focusing on Health, Nutrition, and Education, we aim to uplift communities in a holistic manner.”

In collaboration with Africa Skills Village, a division of the UXi group, Tebelo offers accredited training programmes that transcend the standard curriculum. Rather than just offering qualifications, Tebelo is committed to nurturing entrepreneurship, illustrated by their recent accomplishment – the training of six budding bakers, under the tutelage of the esteemed Francois Ferreira Academy.

Dr. Ellenore Meyer, Tebelo’s CEO, shares her exhilaration, “Observing our ethos of empowerment through education manifest is truly inspiring. We have vast dreams for the Tebelo Lighthouse farm, including initiatives in urban farming, viticulture, and a unique ‘University of Life’ focusing on specialized training.”
The organization has put forth an earnest appeal, urging both local and international firms and philanthropists to back groundbreaking projects like their envisioned Early Childhood Development Centre, a state-of-the-art sports field, and a Technology Enabled Active Learning Centre in alliance with the Minnesota based NGO, Matter .
As they look to the future, with adequate backing, Tebelo is poised to expand its transformative reach, not just within South Africa, but across the continent.
Those intrigued by this initiative can find the striking Tebelo Lighthouse strategically positioned near Plettenberg Bay on the N2 Highway, in The Western Cape, South Africa, providing a beacon of hope and inspiration for many.
